Wind-Driven Rains

By Conor

Here in the Midwest,  during the spring and the summer, we get A LOT OF RAIN with strong winds. You will probably get some weird, never before seen leaks and think that your roof needs to be replaced, or have a contractor say you need it replaced. Most of the time it’s a vent or a piece of flashing, but because of the irregular winds of the spring, you haven’t seen that water leak before. This weird wind is usually out of the East and has a heavy rain.

How can rain damage my home?

Wind-driven rain can cause roof damage

Horizontal rain can easily blow past shingles, flashing, chimneys, skylights, windows, siding and dormers. This may cause water damage to your walls, corner boards, chimney or ceilings whenever the rain blows this way.

Most of the time it’s a vent or a piece of flashing, but because of the irregular winds of the spring, you haven’t seen that water leak before. This weird wind is usually out of the East and has a heavy rain.

Almost every roof we are on has all the vents and flashing installed wrong because it’s reversely lapped. So when you get a heavy rain out of the east and the water starts pouring into your home, don’t always listen to the guy telling you that you need a complete tear off re-roof without a good explanation.

Juno Construction can provide you with a free estimate quickly. If you are having issues with leaks, call us today! We will help make sure the minor leaks from wind-driven rain does not turn into major water damage problems in your home. You can trust the job will be done right every time.
